From the train
The Celta runs up the Portuguese Minho coast through Viana do Castelo, reaches the Minho river at Valença under its star-shaped fortress, crosses into Galicia and finishes at Vigo-Guixar above the harbour.
Across the map
It is worked by a Renfe 592-class diesel unit hired by CP, so the train itself is unglamorous (this is a service journey, not a cruise train) but it is the only direct rail link between northern Portugal and Galicia and it costs a fraction of the flight.
The published route runs from Porto to Vigo via Nine, Viana do Castelo, Valença.
