Douro Historical Train

CP’s Douro Historical Train is a seasonal Régua–Tua return experience using restored early-20th-century carriages, regional music and stops in Pinhão and Tua. For 2026, a historic 1960s diesel replaces the usual steam locomotive.

On board

This is a preserved railway run for its own sake, so the journey deliberately feels older and slower than modern rail. At a few hours between Peso da Régua and Tua, it is long enough to feel like a journey and short enough to watch the whole of it without losing concentration. There are few intermediate calls, so the run feels continuous once it is underway.
