Comboio Histórico do Vouga: Aveiro to Macinhata do Vouga

The Comboio Histórico do Vouga is CP's summer heritage working on the Linha do Vouga, the only narrow-gauge line still carrying passengers in Portugal. Early-twentieth-century wooden carriages are hauled from Aveiro up the valley through Sernada do Vouga to Macinhata do Vouga, where the national railway museum keeps its Vouga collection, with a cultural stop at Águeda on the return. CP ran the 2026 edition on nine Saturdays between 4 July and 29 August.

From the record

Why this railway matters

This is a metre-gauge railway that never stopped being a railway, so the heritage train runs over a working line rather than a preserved museum section. The scheduled stop at Macinhata puts the museum depot, with its Vouga locomotives, inside the itinerary rather than beside it, and the July departures are timed to the AgitÁgueda street-art festival. Plan around the short season: outside high summer the historic train does not run, and dates are announced edition by edition.
