Alfa Pendular: Lisbon to Porto and Braga

The Alfa Pendular is CP's tilting long-distance service, introduced in 1999 with Fiat Ferroviaria-built series 4000 sets rated at 220 km/h, running from Lisbon Santa Apolónia along the Linha do Norte to Porto Campanhã and on to Braga. CP's own fare table for the Lisbon–Braga relation took effect on 1 January 2026. Seats are reserved in Conforto and Turística classes and there is a café-bar car.

Why this route matters

It is the only tilting high-speed product in Portugal, and the tilt is noticeable: the Linha do Norte is a curved conventional alignment rather than a purpose-built high-speed line, which is precisely why the trainsets were bought. The run gives you the country's three principal northern cities in one reserved seat, and the Braga extension takes you onto the Minho line beyond Porto. Book ahead, as fares are reservation-based and the busiest Lisbon–Porto departures fill.
