JR Kyushu journeys

The island railway that turned sightseeing trains into a design programme, plus the Shinkansen lines that connect them.

JR Kyushu's D&S (Design and Story) trains are the densest concentration of designed sightseeing services anywhere in the catalogue, each built for a specific Kyushu route and bookable as an ordinary reserved seat.

Because the island is small, these are mostly half-day rides rather than expeditions, which makes them easy to chain: a Shinkansen leg to the region, a designed train along the coast or into the hills, and an ordinary local line back. The groupings below follow that logic.
