The Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen is Japan's newest and shortest high-speed line, running Kamome services between Takeo-Onsen and Nagasaki in about 23 minutes. It opened in September 2022 and is not yet physically connected to the rest of the Shinkansen network, so journeys from Hakata involve a timed change at Takeo-Onsen.
