The Tren de Sóller is a narrow-gauge electric railway opened in 1912, running about 27 kilometres from Palma's Plaça d'Espanya through Bunyola and thirteen tunnels under the Serra de Tramuntana to the citrus town of Sóller, in around an hour.

Why this railway matters
The carriages are the original wooden stock, still in daily service rather than parked in a museum, and the climb out of the Palma plain into the Tramuntana range is the best rail view on Mallorca.
Train and tram
A connecting vintage tram, opened in 1913, carries passengers a further five kilometres down to Port de Sóller.
Doing the train and the tram together gives you a complete line from the island capital to the Mediterranean, and a combined ticket covers it.

The Cremallera de Montserrat is a five-kilometre Abt-system rack railway run by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya, climbing roughly 550 metres from Monistrol de Montserrat, via Monistrol Vila, to the Montserrat monastery in about fifteen minutes. The original line opened in 1892 and closed in 1957; the present electrified railway reopened on the alignment in 2003.

The Cremallera de Núria is a 12.5 kilometre metre-gauge Abt rack railway opened in 1931 and run by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya, climbing from Ribes-Enllaç in the Ripollès through Ribes-Vila and Queralbs to the high valley of Núria at 1,964 metres. It gains over a thousand metres in about forty minutes and runs daily through the year.
