Why this route
This is an everyday train that happens to run through one of Sweden's gentlest and most layered landscapes: limestone escarpment on one side, the inland sea of Vänern on the other, with medieval churches and stone quarries in between. Because it is a regional service rather than an excursion, it runs year round and can be combined with walking the Kinnekulle trail between stations. Bring a regional ticket and treat the timetable as sparse rather than frequent.
Our current editorial assessment, for comparing journeys, a considered judgement, not a measurement.

Step-free access and assistance are set out with the practical detail further down rather than reduced to a score.
