AONIYOSHI is Kintetsu's sightseeing limited express between Osaka-Namba, Kintetsu-Nara and Kyoto, rebuilt from 12200-series stock into a four-car train of twin seats, salon seats, a library and a sales counter. Kintetsu publishes eight services a day, starting with the 09:10 from Osaka-Namba, which reaches Kyoto at 10:31 after reversing at Kintetsu-Nara.

Why this experience
The name is a pillow-word from the Man'yōshū attached to Nara, and the train commits to it: purple exterior, rosette crests, latticework, a library of books about the old capital and a counter selling Nara sweets and beer. Inside it is a genuinely unusual layout; twin seats facing each other across a table by the window, three-person salon seats, and wide glass that faces outward rather than forward. The route matters too, because the train links three capitals in one run: out of Osaka-Namba underground, across the Ikoma ridge, into Kintetsu-Nara, then a reversal and a run north through Tambabashi into Kyoto. The whole Osaka to Kyoto trip takes about eighty minutes, and between the two ends the train shuttles several times between Kyoto and Nara, so you can use it as a short, very comfortable connection rather than a full day. Seats are reserved and the special-car charge is on top of the ordinary fare.
