Argentina · Scenic
Tren Patagónico links Viedma and Bariloche on a weekly overnight journey across the immense Río Negro steppe, with Primera, Pullman and sleeper-cabin accommodation as well as the unusual option to transport a vehicle.
Viedma → San Carlos de Bariloche
Scenic
Why this route
Choose it to experience Patagonia at ground level instead of flying across it: the railway makes the scale and emptiness of the region the defining part of reaching Bariloche.

This is a daytime scenic service rather than a sleeper, so the ride reads more like moving through a viewpoint than getting from A to B. The long run between Viedma and San Carlos de Bariloche gives the scenery time to shift gradually, and the day settles into its own rhythm of stops and open stretches. Calls at Ingeniero Jacobacci railway station break the run into recognisable stages rather than one undifferentiated stretch.

More subjective
Not rated yet: seat quality, onboard service, slow travel quality, remoteness.
Step-free access and assistance are set out with the practical detail further down rather than reduced to a score.
Prices quoted Current published non-resident Primera one-way fare; Pullman and Camarote cost more and rates can update by period.
Not yet verified: rail pass validity. We leave these blank rather than guess.
