Tren de las Sierras: Córdoba to Capilla del Monte

Tren de las Sierras is a state-operated metre-gauge regional service from Alta Córdoba, in the city of Córdoba, up the Punilla valley through Cosquín to Capilla del Monte. The operator gives a journey time of four hours fifty-six minutes for the full run, and the September 2026 timetable shows several services a day. The line opened in 1889 and has been reopened in stages since 2007 after decades of closure.

Why this experience

What makes it worth the ticket

It is a rare Argentine case of a branch line being extended back into service rather than lifted, and it works as real transport: local fares, several departures a day and stations in the middle of the Sierras towns rather than on their edges. The Punilla valley scenery, the folklore town of Cosquín and the walking country around Capilla del Monte are all reachable without a car. Timetables here change with some frequency, so confirm the current schedule with the operator before travelling.
