The Achenseebahn is a metre-gauge rack and adhesion steam railway opened in 1889, climbing 6.76 kilometres and some 440 metres from Jenbach in the Tyrolean Inn valley to Seespitz on the Achensee. After the former operator's insolvency in 2020 it passed to a new company, and its federal concession has been extended to 2034. Its 2026 season runs from roughly May to late October.

From the record
This is the oldest steam cog railway in Europe still working a regular passenger service, and the locomotives push their carriages up the rack section exactly as they did in 1889. At the top the line runs out to the Achensee itself, where the lake steamers connect, so a Jenbach departure can be turned into a rail and water day. Seats on the best departures go early in the Tyrolean summer.
