Kunming to Vientiane on the China–Laos Railway
The D87 and D88 services run between Kunming South and Vientiane on the China–Laos Railway, a 995-kilometre route opened to through passengers in April 2023 and covered in around nine and a half hours. Trains call at Yuxi, Pu'er and Xishuangbanna in Yunnan, cross the border at Mohan and Boten with joint customs formalities, and continue through Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng to the Lao capital.

Shanghai to Lhasa: train Z164/Z165
Train Z164 leaves Shanghai in the evening and reaches Lhasa forty-five hours later, covering 4,372 kilometres via Nanjing, Zhengzhou, Xi'an, Xining and Golmud. It is the longest single passenger run in China. Beyond Xining the train joins the Qinghai–Tibet railway, where the carriages are supplied with extra oxygen for the climb over the Tanggula pass, the highest point on any railway in the world.
