Why this connection

Why this route matters

This is the long one: a single high-speed corridor crossing China from the dry north to the subtropical south, and since 2024 doing the whole distance at 350 km/h. The landscape changes completely along the way; the plains around Shijiazhuang, the Yellow River at Zhengzhou, the lakes and the Yangtze at Wuhan, then the green hills of Hunan and the humid delta around Guangzhou. Few railways anywhere let you watch a country change this comprehensively in one day.

The train in service

What the speed feels like aboard

Only confirmed onboard details and photographs tied to this service appear here. Unrecorded facilities remain unknown.

Speed is the defining quality here: distances that read as long on paper collapse into a short, businesslike ride. The long run between Beijing and Guangzhou (about 2,298 km) gives the scenery time to shift gradually, and the day settles into its own rhythm of stops and open stretches. The middle of the route, through Shijiazhuang Railway Station and Wuhan Railway Station, is where the journey stops feeling like a departure and starts feeling like a place of its own.

Connectivity & power

Wi-Fi

Smart Fuxing trains carrying enhanced onboard technology were introduced on this line from 2021, but not all trains on the route are this type, so availability depends on the specific service.

A working high-speed railway running at its designed speed on purpose-built infrastructure rather than upgraded classic line.

  • Families

    Good fit

Short journey, level boarding at the principal stations and toilets on board; luggage space is the usual constraint at busy times.
