Acela: Boston to Washington

Acela is described by Amtrak as America's only high-speed rail service, running the length of the Northeast Corridor from Boston South Station to Washington Union Station in about seven hours, with calls including Providence, New Haven, New York's Moynihan Train Hall, Philadelphia 30th Street and Baltimore Penn. Why this connection

Why this route matters

No other American train links this many major downtowns in one day, and the corridor is the one place in the United States where the train genuinely beats flying. The ride takes in the Rhode Island shoreline and the marshes of Connecticut, the run into Manhattan under the Hudson, and the industrial river crossings around Philadelphia and Baltimore. Riding it end to end is a way of seeing how tightly packed the eastern seaboard really is; and the station buildings at either end are worth the fare on their own.
