Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad
The Durango & Silverton runs 45.4 miles of three-foot narrow gauge between Durango and Silverton in southwest Colorado, on rails first laid in 1882 and worked by coal-fired steam locomotives ever since. The summer run to Silverton takes around three and a half hours each way; in winter trains turn short at Cascade, 26 miles out. The line is a National Historic Landmark.

Grand Canyon Railway: Williams to the South Rim
The Grand Canyon Railway runs daily from Williams, Arizona to the Grand Canyon Depot at the South Rim, a trip of about two and a quarter hours each way on a line first opened in 1901. The depot at the canyon end sits inside the national park, a short walk from the rim itself, which means the train delivers you to the view without a car park in between.
