PeruRail Titicaca Train: Cusco to Puno
The Titicaca Train is PeruRail's daytime service between Cusco's Wánchaq station and Puno on the shore of Lake Titicaca, scheduled by the operator at approximately ten and a half hours and running on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The train carries an observation car, a bar and a three-course menu, and crosses the high pass at La Raya on the way. PeruRail markets it explicitly as the day counterpart to its overnight Andean Explorer.

Why this experience
What makes it worth the ticket
Ten and a half hours of altiplano at daylight is a different proposition from the same geography passed in a sleeper: the pampas, the herds and the pass itself are all visible rather than slept through. The observation car at the rear is open to the air, which matters at four thousand metres. It is a full travel day rather than an excursion, so plan an arrival night in Puno rather than onward travel the same evening.
